NeST Community: Connecting People and Organisations
Back to Latest News

Across the South Hams, there are many charities, community groups and non-profit organisations doing important work in their communities. At the same time, there are people who would like to volunteer to support their communities but are not always sure where to start, what might suit them, or how to take that first step.
On Saturday 6 June, as part of National Volunteers’ Week, we will be bringing both people and organisations together at Tumbly Hill for Volunteering Together – a community event designed to make those connections easier.
Why we’re holding this event

Volunteering is often spoken about in terms of giving time, but it is also about learning, developing confidence, and making new connections.
For individuals, it can open up new interests, build skills, and create a sense of purpose. For organisations, it can strengthen what they offer, bring in new perspectives, and support long-term sustainability.
What is often missing is the space for these two sides to meet in a straightforward, informal way.
Volunteering Together is about creating that space.
Volunteering Together: designed for both organisations and the community
The day has been shaped to support both organisations and individuals, without pressure or expectation.
Morning session (for organisations)
The morning session will focus on networking and shared learning between organisations seeking to recruit volunteers.
10.30am – 12.30pm
Organisations will have time to set up, meet others working in the area, and take part in short talks covering practical approaches to volunteer recruitment, retention and wellbeing. It is also an opportunity to exchange ideas and consider how working more closely together can strengthen the support available.
Afternoon drop-in (open to the public)
In the afternoon, members of the public are welcome to come along, look around, and speak directly with our exhibitor organisations about the volunteering roles they offer.
2.00pm – 5.00pm
There is no expectation to sign up on the day. The aim is simply to provide time and space for you to meet organisations, ask questions, collect leaflets and explore volunteering roles that might feel like a good fit.
We will also be opening up additional rooms throughout our Tumbly Hill Wellbeing Hub, where organisations can hold informal conversations, short presentations, or initial discussions with potential volunteers.
A more connected approach
One of the aims of this event is to support a more joined-up approach across voluntary sector organisations in and around Kingsbridge.
By bringing groups together in the same space, there is an opportunity to share knowledge, identify common challenges, and build relationships that continue long beyond the day itself. Over time, this kind of connection can help create a stronger and more responsive network of support.
Join us
Whether you are part of an organisation or simply considering volunteering, you are welcome to come along. There will be light refreshments available throughout the day.
