Dementia Together
NeST Dementia Services
At Next Steps Together, we support people from the earliest signs of memory loss through to life with a dementia diagnosis. We offer a range of social, emotional and practical services that help families adjust to the changes dementia can bring.
Our approach supports both the person living with dementia and their family caregiver.
We’re not like a traditional drop-off day centre. Instead, we create a shared space where individuals and families can spend time together, take part in meaningful activities, and access support in a calm, welcoming setting.
If You're a Person Living with Dementia
Our services are here to help you stay active, connected and involved in everyday life.
They’re designed to support your independence, confidence and wellbeing — helping to maintain memory, communication, movement and social skills through engaging group activities and supportive routines that feel manageable and reassuring.
You don't need to face dementia alone
Everything we do is shaped by your interests, preferences and needs. At first, a family member will attend groups and activities with you to help everyone settle in. If you’d prefer one-to-one support or a quieter space, we’ll help you find what feels right.
You’ll always be treated with dignity and respect, and your voice will be central to any plans or decisions.
If You're a Family Member or Caregiver
We understand that dementia affects the whole family, and that many people find themselves taking on a caregiving role for someone they love; often without much preparation or support.
That’s why our services include you too. Not just as a carer, but as a person in your own right.
In the early days, we'll ask you to stay on site with your loved one. This helps to build a sense of trust and familiarity - not only for you both, but also for our staff and volunteers as we get to know you.
You don't need to face caregiving alone.
As routines settle and confidence grows, you may choose to:
- Join a support group or one-to-one counselling session
- Take part in a wellbeing activity or enjoy a complementary therapy session
- Pause for a cuppa and a chat with another caregiver or a member of our team
- Spend time in our sensory room or other quiet space on site, knowing support is close by
In time, we may be able to offer short periods of independent respite. That might mean running a few errands in Kingsbridge, go swimming at the leisure centre next door, go for a walk along the estuary, or simply taking a moment for yourself; with the reassurance that your loved one is supported and settled.
The NeST team will work with you to create a plan that feels safe, flexible and sustainable - one that helps you both feel more confident and connected.
