What you can expect
The Strength & Balance Maintenance Class is designed for people who want to maintain or gently improve their strength, balance and confidence with movement, in a supportive and social setting.
This class offers a safe, steady way to stay active, build confidence and keep moving well in everyday life.
You do not need a GP referral to join.
What the class involves
The class is led by a qualified and experienced instructor and focuses on:
- maintaining strength and balance
- improving posture and mobility
- building confidence with everyday movement
- staying active in a safe, supportive environment
Exercises are a mix of seated and standing movements, with options adapted to individual ability. The emphasis is on safe progression rather than pushing or overexertion.

Who it's for
This class may be suitable for people who:
- want to stay active and steady on their feet
- feel their balance or confidence has changed over time
- are returning to exercise after a break
- are waiting for a FaME referral and want to stay active in the meantime
- have completed FaME and would like to continue exercising regularly
You do not need to have completed FaME to join, although it can be a natural next step after the 24-week programme.
All participants are asked to complete a short health questionnaire, and the instructor will always advise if a different option would be safer.
